Philosophy of teaching

My philosophy of education is that all students have the ability to learn, but it is my role as their teacher to help each child discover how he/she learns best and to instill in each child a love of learning and the desire to always strive to do their best. I have high expectations of each child and will not settle for less. I also hope to teach the students that true satisfaction comes from achieving a goal as well as the journey toward that goal. I believe in ongoing communication with the parents to ensure that we are a team working toward common goals. Our classroom operates on one basic principle: that each of us should treat others the way we would like to be treated. We focus on the Great Commandments: “Love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” While focusing on the rights of each individual, we emphasize self-respect and respect for others, responsibility and accountability, problem solving and decision-making skills. We are a Christian community where all are God’s children.

Hobbies and interests

My main hobby is my family. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jim, my three children, two grandsons and two granddaughters. Together we enjoy biking, hiking, cooking and spending time at our farm house in Wind Lake. Our greatest joy as a family is traveling together. We were fortunate enough to explore parts of Europe, and we hope to go back someday. My family is very involved with our Slovenian Cultural Society, Triglav. We are proud of our ethnic background and work hard trying to preserve our heritage. I also enjoy baking, reading, volleyball, taking long walks and gardening.
