Absences & LA / ED Policy

Policy

Regular attendance at classes is essential for any measure of success in a Christian Formation Program. Weekly attendance enables children to grow in the knowledge of the Faith, to develop a sense of belonging to the parish community, and, through regular prayer to build a relationship with God. 100% attendance is preferred – but the required attendance is as follows:

Grades 1 – 6*: 15 of 20 classes (up to five absences *makeup work available upon request for illness or family emergency related absences)

  • Ushering or Altar Serving at Mass is NOT a substitute for attending class and are not to be scheduled during class time.
  •  Students with more than allowed absences have not “Completed Requirements” which will affect eligibility for Athletics.
  • Calling in your missing student does not negate the absence.
  • Due to space restrictions and attendance tracking, students are not able to attend class on another day.
  • Missing class for any St. Leonard Athletic event, practice, game or team Mass is not permitted.

  1. If possible, please call/email before class begins. An Office Aid or the Formation Administrative Assistant will mark the absence records. Please prepare reason for absence.
  2. If, during class, a student is marked absent and we have not previosuly received a call or email notifying us of the absence, an Office Aid will call the family's primary contact during class to request reason for absence. A voicemail is left if family does not pick up.

Late Arrival / Early Departure

A student who arrives late or must leave early from class must have a parent stop in the main school entrance office to sign child(ren) in or out.

If someone other than a parent has been instructed to pick up your child(ren), please notify us via office email (stlcfo@stleonards.org) prior to class.

Late Arrival / Ealry Departure

In recognition that teens often carpool with other families or drive themselves, per our new handbook policy (posted 10/14/26), 7th - 11th grade will no longer retain records on late arrival/early departure, and no parent signature is needed.
