As Catholics, we believe that Christ is really present in the consecrated bread and wine. Our parishioners who serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Mass distribute the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ to people at Mass or other worship services. Some bring consecrated hosts to nursing homes residents or home-bound people. Parishioners who have been confirmed may become Eucharistic Ministers. No dates are assigned for this ministry, as ministers simply volunteer at the Mass they are attending. The only exception to this are sign-ups requested for special holy days such as Christmas.
